Grandmaster Yun

Grandmaster Young Ku Yun is a legendary martial artist and visionary teacher whose career spans over six decades. He began his martial arts journey in the Korean Army in the 1960s, establishing his first Tae Kwon Do club in 1964. By 1966, he became an International Tae Kwon Do Federation (ITF) Instructor, playing a pivotal role in expanding Tae Kwon Do across Asia and Oceania, including Hong Kong, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Western Samoa, and the Cook Islands. His commitment to excellence and innovation laid the foundation for the global growth of martial arts.

In 1987, Grandmaster Yun resigned from the ITF to develop a more holistic martial arts system, culminating in the creation of Yun Jung Do in 1990. His philosophy, known as the Human Art, emphasizes personal development, discipline, and character alongside technical skill. Grandmaster Yun’s teachings focus not just on martial proficiency but on shaping well-rounded individuals who contribute positively to their communities and society at large.

Throughout his career, Grandmaster Yun has been a mentor to thousands of students and instructors worldwide. He served as ITF Executive Director, Chairman of the Techniques Committee, and Chief Representative for Oceania, demonstrating his leadership and vision in the martial arts world. Even today, he continues to guide and inspire the next generation of martial artists, ensuring that the principles of Yun Jung Do remain true to his original vision.

International Leadership and Expansion

Grandmaster Yun was among the early pioneers responsible for establishing Tae Kwon Do outside of Korea.His achievements include:

  • Establishing Tae Kwon Do organisations across Asia and Oceania
  • Becoming the first ITF Instructor in Australia
